Is Your Internal-Audit Schedule Keeping Pace With Your Business? ISO Support in Derbyshire
An audit calendar can look organised while missing the processes that have changed. Before copying last year’s schedule, ask whether it still reflects your current operation.
Start with what has changed
List new sites, services, equipment, suppliers and responsibilities. Compare that list with the processes your audit programme covers. Also review complaints, recurring mistakes and previous findings to decide where a closer look would be useful.
For example, if your business now uses subcontractors for a service previously delivered in-house, review how they are appointed, briefed and checked. A schedule that only checks the old in-house procedure may miss the handovers that matter now.
Give each audit a clear purpose
Decide what process you will follow, what evidence you will need and who can explain how the work is done. Build in time to investigate findings and follow up actions. A completed date on a calendar is only part of the picture.
Try tracing a customer order from enquiry to delivery. Look at how requirements are passed on, who approves changes and how the finished work is checked. Compare the records with the team’s account of what happens.
Check what happened to the findings
Select a finding from the last audit. Can you show the issue, the agreed action, its owner and evidence that the change worked? If the same problem keeps returning, review the cause and the action rather than simply closing another entry.
These practical checks help you see where further review is needed. They do not replace a review against the applicable standard and the scope of your management system.
